Motor vehicle collision involving pedestrian

On the 14^th of March at 1:27pm, a vehicle was northbound on Pinnacle St. making a right turn onto Station St.  At the same time, an 85-year-old Belleville woman was walking northbound and had entered the pedestrian crossing in the intersection.  The female collided with the vehicle and was knocked to the ground.  The pedestrian was transported to the Trenton Memorial Hospital where she was treated for several fractures to her foot, significant cuts / abrasions and soft tissue injuries.  The injuries are not deemed to be life threatening.  At this stage of the investigation, alcohol / drugs are not suspected and speed does not appear to be a factor in the incident.  The driver of the truck remained on-scene and was fully cooperative with police.  Members of the Belleville Police Service’s Traffic Safety Unit and Forensic Identification Section both attended to process the scene. The collision remains under investigation.

Traffic stop leads to impaired driving charge

On the 14^th of March at 8:38pm, an officer conducting speed enforcement on Hwy # 62 conducted a traffic stop.  The officer observed empty beer cans on the front passenger seat of the vehicle.  As part of the investigation, an Approved Screening Device was administered and the driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the Belleville Police Service for further testing. 

As a result of the investigation, 25-year-old Andrew Kays of Bancroft was charged with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus.  He was released on an Undertaking with a court date in April.

Domestic Assault

On the 14^th of March at 10:30am, Belleville Police attended a wooded area in the city’s east end after receiving reports of a male and female arguing while staying in a tent.  Two separate callers reported hearing the female being physically assaulted.  When police arrived, the involved male had left.  Police spoke to the victim and then searched the area.  Police located the involved male and arrested him for assault.  Following the completion of the investigation, police charged a 36-year-old Belleville man with assault and breach of probation.  He was held in custody for a bail hearing. 

Domestic Assault

On the 16^th of March at 1:04pm, police received a call regarding the sounds of a male and female fighting at a residence in the city’s east end.  When police arrived, everything appeared calm.  During their investigation, police learned that a male had physically assaulted a female.  There were no reported injuries.  As a result of the investigation, police arrested and charged a 27-year-old Belleville man with one count of assault.  He was later released on an Undertaking with a court date in April. 

Arrested on Warrant

In December 2022, members of the Belleville Police Criminal Investigations Division conducted a lengthy investigation into the allegations of a sexual assault on a one-month old infant by the grandfather.  Following the conclusion of the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for a 61-year-old man from Mississauga.  The male was charged with sexual assault on a person under 16, assault sexual interference and bestiality.  The accused fled the country prior to his arrest.  On the 16^th of March 2025, security at the Montreal Airport contacted the Belleville Police Service advising that the accused had been arrested while re-entering the country.  With the assistance of the Surete du Quebec, the accused was transported back to Belleville where he was held for a bail hearing.  Police will not be releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the victim and family.

Arrested on warrants

On the 6^th of March, members of the Belleville Police arrested two people on outstanding arrest warrants throughout the day.

At 1:30pm, officers were called to an apartment building in the city’s east end regarding a female who was unwelcome in the building and removing all of her clothing while in the lobby.  Upon arrival, the female provided officers with her sister’s name.  Officers continued their investigation into the female’s identity.  A short time later, two additional officers attended and immediately recognized the female from previous incidents.  With the correct name, officers discovered that the 42-year-old female of no fixed address was wanted on two arrest warrants for failing to attend court and an outstanding bench warrant.  She was arrested without incident and held for a bail hearing. 

Later in the day at 2:11pm, a Justice of the Peace had issued a bench warrant for a 33-year-old man of no fixed address.  At 3:00pm, Belleville Police Service Special Constables working at the Quinte Consolidated Court House on Bridge St. W. located the male at the court house.  He was arrested on the strength of the warrant.  The original charges were for break and enter, fail to comply with a probation order and failing to attend court.  He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Structure Fire

On the 3^rd of March at approximately 6:45pm, Belleville Police responded to a residence on Alnet Dr. at the request of the Belleville Fire Department who were already on scene at a residential fire.  The fire appears to have originated in the garage which was fully engulfed upon arrival by fire.  All of the residents were able to safely evacuate the home.  The fire is not deemed to be suspicious in nature and is believed to have started as a car fire involving the vehicle’s battery while parked inside the garage. 

Traffic Enforcement

On the 3^rd of March at 7:38am, members of the Belleville Police Service’s Traffic Safety Unit observed a motor vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Dundas Street East near Pinnacle St.  The driver, a 24-year-old male from Belleville was observed travelling at 93km/h in a posted 50km/h zone.  As a result, he was charged with stunt driving and issued a summons for traffic court.  Additionally, his driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 70 calls for service over a 24-hour period beginning at 5:00 am on February 19, 2025 to 5:00 am on February 20, 2025.

Break and Enter

On the 19^th of February at 10:02am, Belleville Police attended a restaurant on Bell Blvd. for a report of a break and enter that had occurred sometime overnight. Unknown persons had broken a window to make entry and subsequently “trashed” the restaurant. A significant amount of damaged was noted along with an undisclosed amount of money was stolen. Members of the Forensic Identification Unit attended to process the scene. The incident remains under investigation.   Anyone with information is asked to contact Cst. Assault

On the 19^th of February, Belleville Police received two 911 calls where there was no contact with the caller.  Approximately 30 minutes later at 10:12pm, the same phone number called and this time a female advised police that she had been assaulted by her husband.  Police responded to an east end residence and arrested a 28-year-old male. The female did not require medical attention. The male was charged with one count of assault and released on an Undertaking with a court date in March.  The name of the accused is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim. 

Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 101 calls for service over a 24-hour period beginning at 5:00 am on February 5, 2025 to 5:00 am on February 6, 2025.

Attempted purchase of vehicle using fraudulent documents

On the 3^rd of February a local car dealership contacted the Belleville Police Service after employees became suspicious after a customer was attempting to purchase a vehicle over the phone using what was believed to be fraudulent identification and banking information.  Members of the Criminal Investigative Division continued the investigation.  On the 5^th of February at 4:00pm, two suspects attended the dealership in person to complete the purchase.  Police attended and arrested the individuals without incident.  As a result of the investigation, a 61-year-old male and a 31-year-old male both from Quebec were charged with fraud over $5000, identity theft, personation and utter forged documents.  Both males were held in custody for a bail hearing. 

Motor Vehicle Collision

On the 5^th of February at 8:00pm, an officer on patrol observed a motor vehicle collision on Albion St.  A 55-year-old Belleville resident was driving her vehicle when she struck a parked vehicle.  Alcohol was not a factor in the collision and there were no injuries however her vehicle was no longer driveable.  Police were able to locate the owner of the parked vehicle.  As a result of the investigation, the driver was charged with carless driving and issued a Provincial Offence Notice.  Her vehicle was towed from the scene. 

Arrested on Warrant

On the 4^th of February at 3:42pm, members of the Belleville Police Community Resource Unit were conducting general patrol in the downtown core. The CRU Unit located 38-year-old Sherri Lynn-Tremblay of no fixed address who was currently wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to attend court. As a result, she was arrested on the strength of the warrant and held for a bail hearing.

Arrested on Warrants

On the 31^st of January at 1:10pm, an officer on patrol in the city’s downtown core observed a male known to them and currently wanted on several outstanding arrest warrants held by the Belleville Police Service.  As a result, the 54-year-old Belleville man was arrested without incident on the strength of the warrants.  He was held in custody for a bail hearing. 

Traffic Enforcement leads to Impaired Driver

On the 31^st of January at 10:16pm, an officer on patrol in the city’s downtown observed a possible impaired driver.  The officer observed the suspect vehicle to drive over a raised curb, cross a sidewalk and through a snow bank before coming to a stop in a parking lot.  Officers stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver.  Police believed the driver was impaired by alcohol and therefore he was arrested.  During the arrest, the male refused to exit the vehicle and tried to close the door on police.  Following a brief struggle, the male was taken into custody.  The suspect was returned to the Belleville Police Service for further testing.  While at the station, the suspect complained that he wasn’t feeling well because he had consumed illicit drugs including fentanyl and cocaine.  He was transported to BGH via paramedics as a precautionary measure.  Following the police investigation, the driver, a 32-year-old Brighton man was charged with impaired operation of a vehicle, driving while disqualified, breach of probation and failing to comply with a blood demand.  Upon being released from the hospital, the male was returned to the BPS and held for a bail hearing. 

Assault and breach of probation

On the 1^st of February at 2:00am, Belleville Police were called to a residence in the city’s east end regarding a domestic dispute.  Upon arrival, police learned that a male and female who were in a relationship had been involved in a dispute.  During the investigation, police learned that the 37-year-old male had physically assaulted the female and that he was currently breaching his probation.  During the incident, the male sustained a cut on his hand which required medical attention.  He was transported to BGH where he received medical attention.  He was later released from custody on an Undertaking charged with assault and breach of probation.  Police will not be releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the victim. 

Arrested on Warrants and breach of Undertaking

On the 2^nd of February at 12:40am, Belleville Police responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in the city’s east end.  Upon arrival, police spoke to the involved parties.  Police learned that the male involved was wanted on an outstanding warrant and he was currently breaching conditions of an Undertaking. As a result, the 40-year-old Belleville man was arrested on the warrant and further charged with two counts of breaching his Undertaking.  He was later released on an Undertaking with a court date in March.

Residential Fire

On the 2^nd of February at 1:10am, Belleville Police, Fire and Hastings-Quinte EMS attended an address on North Park St for a residential fire.  Three people were transported from the residence to BGH for smoke inhalation.  A number of nearby neighbours were evacuated from their residences for safety reasons.  Emergency services worked with the Canadian Red Cross and Victim Services to facilitate emergency shelter arrangements for those that were displaced.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation and the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshall has been contacted.
