Donna SMITH Was Arrested

(BLIND RIVER, ON)– Roommate steals light bar of pickup truck.

On February 19, 2025, at approximately 2:00 p.m., the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft incident on West Street in the Town of Blind River. The owner of a pickup truck witnessed their roommate removing the light bar from the vehicle.

Donna SMITH, 60 years old from Blind River was charged with Theft under $5000.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on March 13, 2025.

Taiven CADA Arrested After Rampage

(BLIND RIVER, ON)– OPP makes two arrests.

On February 17, 2025, at approximately 12:00 p.m., the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a threat’s complaint on Hudson Street in the Town of Blind River. 

The investigation revealed that the complainant was walking eastbound on Hudson Street when they were chased by a blue pickup truck. The driver of the pickup truck exited the vehicle, and a confrontation ensued, during which the complainant was sprayed with bear mace.

Approximately two to three weeks earlier, the complainant reported being pushed down by the driver of the same blue pickup truck while walking eastbound on Causley Street. The complainant was then assaulted with a bong and a can, sustaining injuries to the head and nose.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on February 17, 2025, Taiven CADA, 18 years old from Blind River was arrested charged with:

  • Uttering threats-cause death or bodily harm – two counts
  • Assault
  • Assault with a weapon-two counts
  • Dangerous operation
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm – two counts
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm – two counts
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose – two counts
  • Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device – two counts
  • Driving while under suspension – two counts

Before the pickup truck was towed police located and seized an air gun and a bolt action rifle.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on April 3, 2025.

While investigating the above incident, police determined that the complainant was also wanted for a break and enter that occurred in early February 2025.

On February 3, 2025, at approximately 12:30 p.m., a storage building on Lachore Street in Blind River was broken into. The suspect damaged the window of the front door and stole items, including a sweater and shoes. The stolen items were later posted on social media.

On February 17, 2025, at approximately 12:00 p.m., Nicolas SACHRO, 18 years old from Blind River was arrested and charged with:

  • Theft under $5000
  • Break, enter a place-with intent to commit an indictable offence
  • Possession property obtained by crime

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on April 3, 2025.

Reneigh KOKE: Drunk Driving

(BLIND RIVER, ON)– The East Algoma OPP lays 4th impaired charge in 2025.

On February 15, 2025, at approximately 10:00 p.m., the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a vehicle that was stuck in a snowbank on Mountain Glen Road in the Town of Blind River. 

Police arrived on scene a short time later and located the car stuck in a snowbank with the driver at the wheel. While speaking to the driver police determined alcohol had been consumed and a subsequent arrest was made. The driver was then transported to Blind River detachment for further testing.

Reneigh KOKE, 49 years old from Blind River was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on April 3, 2025.

The car was towed and impounded for seven days with the driver being issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension.

20 Year Old Urinates On Floor After Arrest

(BLIND RIVER, ON)– Officers locate individual falling in the snow.

On February 5, 2025, at approximately 10:30 p.m., the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report regarding a suspicious individual, possibly intoxicated, who was observed standing in a driveway in the 100 block of Causley Street, in the Town of Blind River.

Upon arrival, police located the person walking on the Causley Street sidewalk without shoes and exhibiting clear signs of intoxication. The individual was arrested and transported to the Blind River detachment, where they were lodged until sober.

While in custody, the accused became increasingly agitated and verbally abusive towards officers. The situation escalated when the individual began splashing toilet water in the cell area and at one point, the accused urinated through the bars of the cell onto the floor.

Gerry DICKINSON, 20 years old from Blind River was charged with:

  • Mischief under $5000
  • Being intoxicated in a public place

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on March 6, 2025.

Motel Room Destroyed – Stephen LAWRENCE Arrested

(BLIND RIVER, ON)– Motel room destroyed by customer.

On February 3, 2025, at approximately 2:00 a.m., the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was called to a disturbance at a motel on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River, where an individual was reportedly causing damage to items inside one of the rooms.

Police arrived at the scene, and during the arrest, the individual resisted. The accused was subsequently transported to the Blind River detachment. While in custody, the accused was later served a breakfast sandwich. When an officer entered the cell area to speak with the accused, the sandwich was thrown at the officer.

Stephen LAWRENCE, 42 years old from Midland was charged with:

  • Mischief-destroys or damages property
  • Assault peace officer
  • Resist peace officer
  • Causing a disturbance

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on February 3, 2025, and was remanded into custody.

Dmytro MIZYK – Was Arrested

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – Police recover stolen Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) after a traffic complaint.

On January 30, 2025, at approximately 6:30 a.m. the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint of a speeding black SUV that was crossing the center line on Highway 17, North Shore Township. Police stopped the SUV and after further investigation determined that the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) had been changed. The original manufacturer’s VIN was located which resulted in the vehicle being stolen. The approximately $100,000 SUV was reported stolen on November 10, 2024, from the King City area. The driver was subsequently arrested and the vehicle towed.

Dmytro MIZYK, 40-years-old, of Winnipeg, Manitoba was charged with – Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.  

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on March 6, 2025.

Stolen Vehicle Recovered – 2 Arrested

(BLIND RIVER, ON)- Roommates take car without consent.

On January 1, 2025, at approximately 1:00 p.m., the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a stolen vehicle that had been taken from a parking lot on West Street in the Town of Blind River sometime after 4:00 p.m. the previous day.

The investigation revealed two roommates had taken the car keys from the owner’s a pants pocket. At approximately 2:00 p.m., while searching for the stolen black vehicle, officers spotted it traveling eastbound on Highway 17 toward Blind River.

A traffic stop was initiated on Causley Street, where both the driver and passenger were arrested and transported to the Blind River Detachment.

During the investigation, it was determined that the driver had consumed an intoxicating substance. Further testing was then conducted by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) from the Mississauga First Nation Police Service.

As a result, the driver Donna SMITH, 60 years-old from Blind River was charged with:

  • Take motor vehicle without consent
  • Operation while impaired – drugs
  • Drive motor vehicle – licence

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on February 6, 2025.

The passenger, Mindy BROWN, 40 years-old from Blind River was charged with: Take motor vehicle without consent

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on March 6, 2025.

Melissa BEAUPRE – Drunk Driving

(BLIND RIVER, ON)- East Algoma OPP lays 53rd impaired charge in 2024.  

On December 27, 2024, the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting patrol duties in the Town of Blind River. At approximately 12:30 a.m., while approaching Hanes Avenue from Youngfox Road, officers observed a vehicle on Hanes Avenue make a wide right-hand turn onto Youngfox Road, narrowly missing the police cruiser.

The officers located the vehicle at an address on Youngfox Road. During their interaction with the driver, they determined that alcohol had been consumed. When the driver refused to comply with a roadside breath demand, they were arrested and transported to Blind River detachment for further testing.

Melissa BEAUPRE, 35 years-old from Blind River, was charged with:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Operation while impaired-alcohol
  • Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on February 6, 2025.

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension and the car was impounded for seven days.

Gerry DICKINSON Urinates On Walls, Floors & Plays In Toilet Water

(BLIND RIVER, ON)- Passed-out customer charged with multiple offences.  

On December 18, 2024, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an intoxicated person who had passed out at a table with a bottle of alcohol at a local coffee shop on Causley Street in Blind River.

Upon arrival, police observed the intoxicated individual walking away from the business. The person was arrested and taken to the Blind River detachment. While in custody, the individual became belligerent, urinated on the floor and walls, and later stuffed their shirt into the cell toilet, splashing toilet water throughout the cell.

As a result, Gerry DICKINSON, 19 years-old from Blind River, was charged with:

  • Mischief under $5000
  • Failure to comply with undertaking
  • Being intoxicated in public place

The accused is scheduled to appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on February 6, 2025.

Head On Collision – Ryan FREE Charged

(BLIND RIVER)- OPP respond to a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles.

On December 10, 2024, at approximately 3:00 p.m., the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Algoma Paramedic Services responded to a motor vehicle collision within the 200 block of Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.

Investigation determined a westbound white SUV collided head on with an eastbound black car. The driver of the black car suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the white SUV, Ryan FREE, 52 years-old from Elliot Lake, was charged with:

  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Careless driving

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on February 6, 2025.
