Kaylem DAYBUTCH – Drunk Driving

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – East Algoma OPP lays 49th impaired charge in 2024.

On November 16, 2024, at approximately 5:00 a.m., the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) assisted by Mississauga First Nation Police Service responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Granary Lake Road in the Town of Blind River. 

Investigation determined a car failed to negotiate a corner on Granary Lake Road and continued to travel through the bush striking a tree. The driver then left the scene looking for assistance and walked to the complainant’s residence on Magog Lake Road. 

Police attended the collision scene to confirm that there were no other occupants in the vehicle.  They then attended the complainant’s residence and while speaking to the driver determined alcohol had been consumed. 

The driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital in Blind River via Algoma Paramedic Services. 

As a result of the investigation, Kaylem DAYBUTCH, 23 years-of-age from Mississauga First Nation was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on January 2, 2025.

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Shawn BENTLEY Facing Charges

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – Driver arrested at traffic stop.

On November 17, 2024, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on patrol in the Town of Blind River. At approximately 9:30 p.m., police observed a westbound white car travelling at a high rate of speed on Causley Street and initiated a traffic stop. A query revealed the driver had an outstanding warrant from the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS).

The East Algoma OPP assisted with the execution of the warrant for: Failing to attend court-as per undertaking. The driver will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury at a later date. 

Shawn BENTLEY, 36 years-of-age from Sudbury was charged with:

  • Driving while under suspension
  • Speeding
  • Driver fail to surrender licence

TRUDEAU Arrested For Sexually Assaulting Child #PervertAlert

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – One person charged after sexual assault investigation.

On October 15, 2024, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) commenced a sexual assault investigation that occurred between September 2023 and October 15, 2024. The assaults were reported to have occurred at a school in Blind River.

As a result of the investigation, Donald TRUDEAU, 72 years age from Blind River, has been charged with:

  • Sexual Interference – two counts
  • Sexual Assault on a Person Under 16 years of age – two counts

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River, on November 14, 2024.

Theresa OUIMETTE Was Arrested

(BLIND RIVER, ON)- East Algoma OPP lays 39th impaired charge in 2024.

On September 23, 2024, at approximately 9:00 p.m., the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver operating a white SUV that was in the Town of Blind River. 

Another complaint advised that the impaired driver was travelling westbound on Highway 17 and may be driving home to Bruce Mines. At approximately 10:30 p.m. police located the SUV parked and running at the intersection of Highway 17 and Main Street in the Town of Iron Bridge.

While speaking to the driver police determined the driver had consumed alcohol and was arrested. While searching the vehicle police located open containers of alcohol and a small amount of suspected cocaine.

The driver was then transported to Blind River detachment for further testing. While at detachment the driver refused to provide a breath sample and was lodged until sober. 

As a result, Theresa OUIMETTE, 45 years-of-age from Bruce Mines was charged with:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Possession of a schedule I substance-cocaine
  • Having care or control of a motor vehicle with container of liquor

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on November 7, 2024.

The SUV was towed and impounded for seven days with the driver being issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension.

Elliot HAMILTON Arrested After Spitting On Window

(BLIND RIVER, ON)- While being transported to Blind River detachment the accused spat on cruiser’s partition window.

On August 22, 2024, at approximately 12:00 p.m., the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended an apartment on Main Street in the Town of Thessalon to assist a Court Enforcement Officer Sheriff with an eviction.

Police queried the individual and revealed this person had multiple outstanding warrants and was subsequently arrested. While being transported to Blind River Detachment the accused spat on the cruiser’s partition window.

As a result, Elliot HAMILTON, 21 years-of-age from Thessalon was charged with: Mischief-renders property dangerous, useless, inoperative or effective.

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail in Blind River on August 22, 2024, and was remanded into custody.

Jordan FAGAN Charged

(BLIND RIVER, ON)- Cube van runs a red light.

On August 12, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint where a westbound white cube van ran a red light on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.

At approximately 10:00 p.m., OPP observed the white cube van on Highway 17 near River Street in the Town of Thessalon and initiated a traffic stop. A query revealed the driver was breaching a curfew and was a suspended driver.

As a result, Jordan FAGAN, 24 years-of-age from Brampton was charged with:

  • Failure to comply with release order-other than to attend court
  • Driving while under suspension

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail in Blind River on August 13, 2024, and was remanded into custody.

7 Month Old Cat Executed – Police Seek Public Assistance

(BLIND RIVER, ON)-Cat dies after being shot with low calibre firearm. 

On July 27, 2024, shortly after 12:00 p.m., the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an animal complaint where a cat was shot on River Road in the Town of Blind River.

Investigation determined on July 26, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the owner let the cat outside and fifteen minutes later the seven-month-old cat returned home with a bloody wound in the mouth and bleeding profusely. The owners transported their pet to a local veterinarian in Elliot Lake where the feline succumbed to its injuries. The X-ray determined the cat had been shot through its mouth, with the low calibre projectile exiting the chin area, penetrated the chest and became lodged causing a fatal injury.

Raymond LENDRUM – Assault

(BLIND RIVER, ON)- One person charged after physical altercation.

On July 6, 2024, shortly after 7:00 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance at an apartment complex on Woodward Avenue in the Town of Blind River.  

Investigation determined the tenant and the complainant had been consuming alcohol when an altercation took place resulting in the complainant receiving a punch in the face.   

As a result, Raymond LENDRUM, 61 years-of-age from Blind River was charged with: Assault.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on August 8, 2024.

Matthew BEAUMONT – Charged Based On DRE’s Opinion

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – A Sault Ste. Marie driver was arrested and charged after motorists reported erratic driving on Highway 17.

On March 27, 2024, at approximately 7:45 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received an impaired driving complaint regarding a black pick-up truck operating erratically on Highway 17- very inconsistent speeds, passing dangerously and following too close. Police stopped the pick-up truck and spoke to the driver, who exhibited considerable signs of impairment. As a result, they were arrested and assessed by an OPP Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE). The vehicle was towed and impounded. 

Matthew BEAUMONT, 36-years-old, from Sault Ste. Marie was charged with – Operation while impaired – Alcohol and Drugs.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on June 6, 2024.

The OPP would like to remind the motoring public to drive sober; this includes drug consumption as well. Impairment by drugs is a crime under the Criminal Code and drivers are subject to the same penalties as those who are charged with driving while impaired by alcohol.  A charge of impairment by drugs involves all drugs, be it prescription, over-the-counter and those that are illegal.

Carrie MYLES – Drunk Driving

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On March 17, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m. the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call from a motorist regarding a possible impaired driver on Highway 17, Northshore Township.

The complainant reported following a white company truck swerving all over the road and having difficulty maintaining their lane. Police stopped the white truck and spoke to the driver. As a result, the driver was arrested and the vehicle was towed and impounded. 

Carrie MYLES, 35-years-old, from Hanmer was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on May 2, 2024.
