Cobourg Daily Update 23May2025

A 59-year-old Cobourg man is facing charges after driving while prohibited.

On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at approximately 6:45 p.m., an officer was on patrol in the area of University Avenue West at Division Street when he observed a man operating a vehicle that was on numerous driving suspensions and prohibitions, including conditions not to occupy the driver’s seat of a vehicle.

A traffic stop was initiated, and as a result, the 59-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with Driving While Under Suspension, Operation While Prohibited, Failing to Surrender an Insurance Card, and two counts of Fail to Comply with Undertaking. The accused was held in custody pending a Show Cause hearing.


Two youths are facing charges following a report of theft.

On May 12, 2025, at approximately 1:30 p.m., police responded to a theft at a business on King Street. The suspects had already left the scene when police arrived. Following an investigation, the suspects were identified. On May 22, 2025, a 16-year-old male and a 17-year-old female, both from Cobourg, were arrested and jointly charged with Theft Under $5,000 – Shoplifting and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000. They were released on Undertakings with future court dates.


An 18-year-old Cobourg woman has been charged after spitting in an officer’s face during a disturbance call on Thursday night.

On Thursday, May 22, 2025, at approximately 11:00 p.m., police responded to a disturbance involving two individuals in a physical altercation, both under the influence of alcohol. Officers attempted to separate the individuals. One tried to push past officers to re-engage in the confrontation. To prevent a breach of the peace, officers removed one individual from the residence and released them into the care of family. After being released, the individual spat in the face of an officer without warning or provocation. As a result, the 18-year-old Cobourg woman was arrested and charged with Assaulting a Peace Officer. She was held in custody pending a Show Cause Hearing.

Cobourg Police Daily Update 11Mar2025

A 38-year-old Port Hope man has been arrested and charged with impaired driving.

On Friday, March 7, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., police responded to reports of a possible impaired driver at a business near Division Street and Highway 401.  Police stopped the vehicle and investigated the driver, who was displaying erratic behaviour and was subsequently placed under arrest.

Following a drug recognition evaluation, the 38-year-old Port Hope man was charged with Operation While Impaired – Drugs.  The accused’s vehicle was impounded, and he was later released from custody with a future court date.


A 60-year-old Cobourg man is facing charges for shoplifting.

On Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 12:30 p.m., police responded to a business on Division Street after the store’s loss prevention arrested a man for shoplifting.

As a result of the police investigation, the 60-year-old Cobourg man was charged with Theft Under $5,000 and Possession of Crime Under $5,000. The accused was released from custody with a future court date.


A 30-year-old Cobourg man is facing breach charges after police responded to a domestic dispute Sunday night.

On Sunday, March 9, 2025, at around 10:00 p.m., police responded to a downtown apartment after a passing citizen reported hearing what they believed to be a verbal dispute between a man and woman.

Police responded to the address and located the man inside. The female had departed prior to police arrival.

Further investigation showed that the man was currently bound by a release order with conditions prohibiting him from possessing any weapons or cell phones. Officers noted multiple prohibited knives in plain view inside the residence and that the man was in possession of a cell phone.

As a result of the police investigation, a 30-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with two counts of failing to comply with a release order and two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon.

The accused was held in custody pending a show cause hearing.

Cobourg Police Daily Update 10Feb2025

A Cobourg man faces charges after a theft from a local business was reported.

On Saturday, February 8, 2025, at approximately 11:00 am, police were called to a business on Division Street in Cobourg.  A staff member witnessed a man selecting items from the store, concealing them, and leaving the store without making payment. He left the area in a vehicle. Following an investigation, police located and arrested a 62-year-old Cobourg man. The accused was charged with Theft Under $5,000 and released on an Undertaking with a future court date.


Cobourg man faces charges as result of trespassing investigation.

On Saturday, February 8, 2025, at approximately 10:45 p.m., police were on general patrol in the area of John Street and James Street East when an officer observed a male on the property of an unoccupied and vacant residence. The officer began to investigate the male for trespassing and, during the investigation, located a knife tucked in the male’s waistband, which was determined to be a prohibited weapon.

As a result, the 27-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, two counts of Possession of a Weapon contrary to a Prohibition Order, and Failing to Comply with Probation. The accused was released on an Undertaking with a court date on March 19, 2025.


Cobourg man faces charges from a domestic disturbance.

On Friday, February 7, 2025, at approximately 9:00 p.m., police responded to a domestic disturbance call in Cobourg. The complainant alleged that her ex-boyfriend attended her residence and damaged her vehicle when she did not answer the door. On Sunday, February 9, 2025, the male turned himself in to police. As a result, the 29-year-old Cobourg man was charged with Mischief under $5,000. He was released on an Undertaking with a future court date.

Weapon & Drug Bust – Details Released

Four arrests were made as a result of two Drug Search Warrants executed in the Town of Cobourg.

As part of an ongoing enhanced enforcement strategy targeting illegal drug activity affecting Northumberland County and the safety of our citizens, the Cobourg Police Service commenced an investigation into drug activity at 351 and 353 John Street in the Town of Cobourg. 

On Thursday, January 30, 2025, members of the Cobourg Police Service Criminal Investigations Bureau (CIB), with the assistance of the Port Hope Police CIB, Ontario Provincial Police Tactical Response Unit (TRU) and Emergency Response Team (ERT), Belleville Police K9, uniform officers and Special Constables, simultaneously executed two Controlled Drug and Substances Act search warrants at 351 and 353 John Street, Cobourg.

A subsequent search of the residence resulted in police locating and seizing the following:

  • Approximately 344.5 grams of fentanyl
  • Approximately 125 grams of cocaine
  • Approximately 46 grams of heroin
  • Approximately 3.5 grams of crystal methamphetamine
  • $2,852 Canadian currency
  • Four Crossbows
  • Several Imitation Firearms

The estimated street value of the drugs seized is $240,625. The amount of fentanyl seized is equivalent to 3,445 potentially fatal doses.

As a result of the investigation, four persons were charged with the following offences:  

Cobourg residents Mark GORDON (36), Shauna WILSON (36), Kayla GIBSON (29) and Andrew PUFFER (39) are jointly charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine contrary
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000

Mark GORDON and Shauna WILSON were jointly charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – heroin
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – crystal methamphetamine
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Produce a schedule I substance – opioid (other than heroin) contrary to section 7(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Mark GORDON was charged with:

  • Possession of weapon contrary to prohibition order

Shauna WILSON was charged with:

  • Possession of weapon contrary to prohibition order

All four were held in custody for a bail hearing.

Cobourg Police Daily Update 24Jan2025

A 43-year-old Cobourg man is facing charges after police were called to a theft from a local business.

On January 22, 2025, police attended a business near Division Street and Munroe Street regarding a theft report. Police identified a suspect from video surveillance footage.

Through investigation it was determined that the male was currently bound by a Conditional Sentence Order. On January 23, 2025, the 43-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with Theft under $5,000, Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and three counts of Fail to comply with Conditional Sentence Order. The accused was subsequently held for bail.


A 32-year-old Cobourg man is facing charges after police were called to a theft at a local business.

On January 23, 2025, Cobourg Police received a report of theft after the fact at a business near Division Street and Munroe Street. Police identified a suspect from video surveillance footage.

As a result of the investigation, a 32-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with Theft Under $5,000, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000, and Breach of Probation.

The accused was released on an Undertaking with a future court date.


A 33-year-old Cobourg woman is facing charges after a theft investigation.

On Friday, January 17, 2024, police received a report of theft from a business in the area of King Street West in Cobourg. Police identified a suspect from video surveillance.

On Thursday, January 23, 2025, at approximately 11:55 p.m., police on general patrol and located the suspect. As a result of the investigation, the 33-year-old Cobourg woman was subsequently arrested and charged with Theft Under $5,000, Possession Under $5,000 and Breach of Undertaking. The accused was held for bail.


Two residents were arrested in a break-and-enter investigation.

On Friday, January 17, 2025, police received a report of a Break and Enter at a business in the area of Division Street and Kerr Street in Cobourg. 

At approximately 3:30 a.m., three individuals attended the business. Two stood by while the third gained access to the business and took merchandise. All three left the property. 

Police identified the three individuals.  

On Saturday, January 18, 2025, at approximately 3:15 p.m., police on patrol located and arrested a 49-year-old Cobourg woman. On Sunday, January 19, 2025, at about 4:10 p.m., police on patrol located and arrested a 34-year-old Cobourg man. Both were charged with Break and Entering, Theft Under $5,000, and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and subsequently released on an undertaking with conditions and a future court date.  

A third arrest is anticipated.

Cobourg Police Daily Update – 17Jan2025

A 55-year-old Cobourg man is facing multiple charges in relation to a break and enter.

On Thursday, January 16, 2025, at approximately 4:00 a.m., a man entered a business on William Street in Cobourg and stole several food items. At approximately 1:00 p.m., the same man re-attended and stole more food items.

Police identified the suspect on video surveillance, and the man was located and arrested

As a result of the investigation, the 55-year-old Cobourg man was charged with Breaking and entering, Theft under $5,000, Possession of Property obtained by Crime, and Failure to comply with probation order.

The accused was held for a bail hearing.


Two Cobourg men are facing multiple charges following a break and enter.

On Friday, January 17, 2025, at approximately 4:30 a.m., police responded to an alarm at a business in the area of Division Street and Ewart Street.  Upon arrival, police engaged the fleeing suspects in a foot pursuit.  Both men were caught and placed under arrest. Upon arrest, officers located knives in their possession.

As a result of the investigation, a 45-year-old male and a 34-year-old man were both have been charged with Break and Enter – Commit Indictable Offence, Mischief – Renders Property Useless, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.

The 45-year-old male was held for a bail hearing, and the 34-year-old man was released with a future court date.

CPS Daily Update 10Jan2025

A 42-year-old Roseneath woman is facing charges after police conducted a traffic stop on Friday morning.

On January 10, 2025, at approximately 1:00 a.m., police on patrol observed a vehicle that appeared to be making evasive maneuvers to avoid police interactions.  The vehicle abruptly turned onto Patterson Street from Division Street before entering the business parking lot.  A traffic stop was conducted and through investigation it was determined the driver was a prohibited driver. 

The driver, a 42-year-old woman from Roseneath, was arrested and charged with three counts of Operation while prohibited contrary to section 320.18(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.

The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date. 


A 34-year-old Cobourg man is facing charges after theft from vehicle reported to police Wednesday.

On Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at about 6:50 a.m., police responded to a report of a theft from a vehicle in the area of Elgin Street West and Burnham Street in Cobourg.

The complainant advised his vehicle was entered overnight and his luggage was taken, including his credit card and passport.

The credit card was used at a local business multiple times. Police identified a suspect and located the suspect in the area of Division Street a short time later.

As a result of the investigation, a 34-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with thirteen counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, twelve counts of unauthorized use of credit card, theft under $5,000, possession of a schedule I substance (cocaine), and breach of probation.

The accused was held for bail.

Kyle GRIEDER Facing Numerous Charges

A 38-year-old Cobourg man is facing multiple charges after police made an arrest with the assistance of the public Saturday afternoon.

On Saturday, December 28, 2024, at approximately 2:10 p.m., members of the Cobourg Police Service Criminal Investigation Branch and Bail Compliance Initiative were in the area of Elgin Street East and Denton Drive in Cobourg when they observed a male known to be wanted on an outstanding warrant with another police service.

Officers approached the male and attempted to take him into custody at which time he began to assault the arresting officer. Several members of the public who were driving by stopped their vehicles and assisted the officer in taking the male into custody.

During the arrest, a replica firearm, a quantity of drugs, and stolen bank cards were located on the male.

As a result, 38-year-old Kyle GRIEDER of Cobourg was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  1. Assault with intent to resist arrest contrary to section 270(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
  2. Possession of imitation weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to section 88 of the Criminal Code
  3. Carry concealed weapon contrary to section 90 of the Criminal Code
  4. Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin) contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  5. Possession of a schedule I substance – crystal methamphetamine contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  6. Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  7. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 contrary to section 355(b) of the Criminal Code

The accused was held for a Show Cause Hearing and has since been remanded into custody.

Cobourg Police Daily Update 19Dec2024

47-year-old Cobourg male arrested for breach of Release order.
On Wednesday, December 18th, 2024, at 3:15 pm, officers were on general patrol in the area of
King Street East and Division Street when they observed a male breaching the conditions of Judicial Release Order by being within 200m of a particular address. As a result, the male was arrested and charged with Fail to comply with Judicial Release Order.

The accused was held in custody pending a Show Cause Hearing on December 19th, 2024, at
9:00am.


A 42-year-old Cobourg man has been arrested for Impaired Operation after police conducted a traffic stop on Thursday.

On Thursday, December 19th, 2024, at 12:15 am, police conducted a traffic stop in the area of Elgin Street and Strathy Road. It was determined that the male was an unlicensed driver and could not provide proof of insurance. While speaking with the driver, police detected a strong odour of alcohol, and the male subsequently failed a roadside screening device test. The male was arrested and transported to Cobourg Police where a breath test was administered. He subsequently failed his breath test and was charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration Above 80, Drive Motor Vehicle No License and Fail to Surrender Insurance Card.

The male was released on an undertaking with a January 2025 court date once sober and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Pervert Alert – 33 Year Old Arrested For Child Pornography

COBOURG (December 13, 2024) – Cobourg man facing charges related to possession of child pornography.

The Cobourg Police Service Criminal Investigations Branch commenced an investigation upon receiving information that a person may be in possession of Child Sexual Abuse Materials in the Town of Cobourg.

As a result of this investigation, on December 12, 2024, police arrested a 33-year-old Cobourg male and charged him with Possession of Child Pornography and Accessing Child Pornography. The male will not be named to protect the identity of the victim.

The male was held for a bail hearing and the investigation is ongoing.

The Cobourg Police Service are part of the Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet. The provincial strategy partners will continue to aggressively identify and pursue individuals who use technology to exploit children.
