Fatal Collision In Southampton

The Saugeen Shores Police Service in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner, are currently investigating a fatal collision that occurred in Southampton on May 16th 2025. 

At approximately 10:30pm Saugeen Shores Police and emergency services responded to a private property in the town of Southampton for a collision involving two dirt bikes.

A 22-year-old male of Saugeen Shores was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 23-year-old male of Saugeen Shores was transported to a trauma center where he remains in critical condition.

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement team (T.I.M.E.) attended the scene on May 17th 2025 to assist with the investigation. The scene has since been released.

No further information will be provided at this time and we ask that you respect the privacy of the families involved. Our thoughts are with everyone affected.

Human Remains Located In Southampton

(Saugeen Shores) Police confirm human remains were recovered in the area of Southampton harbour.

On March 16, 2025, human remains were located by members of the Saugeen Shores Police Service (SSPS). Members of the SSPS Criminal Investigations and Drug Unit, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, OPP USAR CBRNE Response Team (UCRT) and the OPP Forensic Identification Services assisted with the recovery.

A postmortem to identify the remains will be conducted at the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OFPS) in Toronto.

The joint investigation is continuing by the SSPS Criminal Investigation and Drug Unit and the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the OFPS.

Fire – One Sent To Hospital

On February 20th 2025 at approximately 3:55pm Saugeen Shores Police were dispatched to a report of a fire at a residential address in the 300 block of Bricker Street, Port Elgin.

Saugeen Shores Fire Services and Paramedics also attended and were able to extract an adult female from the second story of the home. She was transported by Paramedics to Hospital for further medical assessment. 

No other people were located within the home.

At this time the fire is not considered suspicious.

Fatal Fire In Port Elgin

The Saugeen Shores Police Service, in Partnership with the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshall, the Office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario and the Saugeen Shores Fire Department are investigating a fire that involved a fatality in Port Elgin.

On February 6th, 2025 at approximately 11:30am police and fire were alerted to possible house fire at a residence in Port Elgin. Emergency Services arrived on scene and confirmed that there was a working fire at the residence. Members of the Saugeen Shores Fire Department quickly extinguished the fire. Firefighters located a male without vital signs.  The male was pronounced deceased at the scene.

This investigation is ongoing.

Police Interact With Citizen – One Dead

Saugeen Shores Police Service officers were dispatched to the area of Stafford Street and Johnston Avenue shortly before 5:00am on Tuesday, February 4th 2025.

An adult male was located in medical distress and was transported to hospital. The male has since been pronounced deceased.

The investigation is ongoing. Next of kin has been notified.

There are no concerns for public safety.

Stolen Snow Plow Ends With Charges

On January 28th 2025 at 3:05am Saugeen Shores Police were alerted that a snow plow that had been stolen from Owen Sound, ON was headed towards their jurisdiction. The vehicle was located by officers around 3:15am on Doll Sideroad in the Town of Port Elgin. A traffic stop was attempted and the vehicle fled from police. The vehicle was not pursued.

The truck was then observed on County Road 3 and a tire deflation device was successfully deployed. The vehicle fled from police again despite the blizzard like conditions and headed on to Highway 21. The vehicle was soon abandoned and police began to track the suspects through the snow.

Two individuals were located and placed under arrest.

39-year-old of Owen Sound has been charged with:
-Flight from Peace Officer
-Dangerous operation
-Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance
-Drive while under suspension
-Fail to stop for Police
-Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000

43-year old of Owen Sound has been charged with:
-Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000
-Possession of a Prohibited Device
-Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance

Sarah Bob – Theft

(SAUGEEN FIRST NATION, ON) – One person is facing charges after they stole an item from a vehicle.

On December 19th, 2024, the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft complaint on Scotch Settlement Road, located in Saugeen First Nation. According to the report, the victim had parked their vehicle to drop off an item at a residence. While the victim was away from the vehicle, a suspect entered the vehicle and stole their wallet. The suspect left on foot and was located very quickly.

Sarah Bob, 36-years-old from Saugeen First Nation was charged with the following:

·      Theft under $5000

·      Possession property obtained by crime under $5000

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton on January 15, 2025.

The Grey Bruce OPP is reminding all vehicle owners to make sure your vehicle is always locked and do not leave it running.

Craig FLOOD – Drunk Driving

(SAUGEEN SHORES, ON) – On October 17, 2024, at approximately 9:56 p.m., a member of the West Region Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) team was on patrol and stopped a vehicle along Bruce Road 40, Municipality of Saugeen Shores.

As a result of the interaction, police arrested the driver for impaired driving.

Craig FLOOD, 36-years-old, from the Township of Georgian Bluffs was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

5 Arrested In Drug Bust – All Names Withheld

On April 26th, 2024 the Saugeen Shoes Police Service’s Criminal Investigations and Drug Unit, in partnership with the OPP Grey-Bruce Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) and policing partners, executed four search warrants in the municipalities of Saugeen Shores, Kincardine, and Brampton. As a result of these search warrants, five people have been charged with numerous criminal and drug related offences. 

Police seized illicit drugs with an estimated street value of $126,000. In addition to the drugs, officers seized two handguns, one rifle and prohibited devices.

A complex investigation, of this nature, requires signficant resources and funding. Funding was provided by the Ontario Government’s Criminal Investigations Service of Ontario (CISO) with operational and resources provided by assisting agencies including – OPP Grey-Bruce CSCU, OPP Huron-Perth CSCU, OPP Wellington CSCU, OPP Elgin-Middlesex CSCU, OPP Oxford-Brant CSCU, Peel Regional Police Service, Guelph Police Service, Waterloo Regional Police Service and West Grey Police Service. 

“These seizures are extremely significant.”, remarked Chief Kevin Zettel.  “As a result of Project Riptide several prohibited devices, firearms, and a large quantity of illicit drugs are no longer available on our streets.”, added the Chief.

All charged were held for bail.

49-year-old male from Saugeen Shores:

Missing Person Update

  • Age: 57
  • 5’7 155lbs
  • Black hair – Brown eyes
  • Language: Mandarin
  • Clothing: Grey hip waders, black winter jacket, with fishing gear. 

Saugeen Shores Police are continuing a missing persons investigation in the area of the Saugeen River (Southampton).  Lijun was last in contact with family on Jan 27th 2024 at approximately 630am. A surge of river water and ice occurred as Lijun was suspected to be on the river fishing. 

There will be an increased Police presence in the area. The police search is ongoing and active.

Saugeen Shores Police in partnership with the OPP have been utilizing ground and aviation search techniques and this will continue.
