Peter JACKO Was Arrested Again

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – Police arrested and charged one person with firearms offences.

On March 19, 2025, at approximately 12:45 p.m., the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a person brandishing a firearm on Highway 17, West Nipissing.

There were no injuries reported when police located the individual and effected a gun point arrest, two air handguns were seized. The individual was transported by Emergency Medical Services to the local hospital, from a previous injury received prior to the arrival of police.

As a result of the investigation, Peter JACKO, 34 years-of-age, from Wikwemikong Unceded Reserve First Nation, was charged with:

  • Pointing a firearm
  • Imitation firearm – use while committing offence
  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court – two counts
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of weapon
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order

The accused was held for Bail Court  and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on March 20, 2025, in North Bay.

3 Shot Dead And Left Ditch

(WEST NIPISSINGON) – Police are seeking the public’s assistance with an investigation involving cruelty to animals.

On March 8, 2025, the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), began a cruelty to animals’ investigation, which involved three deceased Great Pyrenees dogs, which had been shot and abandoned in a ditch off Deer Lake Road, West Nipissing (Verner).

Officers are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the individual(s) involved in the destruction and abandoning of these animals.

Shane KELLY Was Arrested

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged one person with possession of stolen property after the execution of a search warrant at a residence.

On January 28, 2025, OPP members from the North East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), Emergency Response Team (ERT), and Snowmobile ATV and Vessel Enforcement (SAVE) Unit, executed a search warrant at a residence on Larocque Street, West Nipissing.

A search of the residence led to the seizure of stolen property being, a 2009 Caterpillar 256C skid steer, a home-made trailer, and two-snowmobile sleighs.

As a result of the investigation, Shane KELLY, 35-years-of-age, from Field, was arrested and charged with: 

  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000 – two counts
  • Failure to comply with undertaking.

The accused was held for Bail Court, then remanded back into custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on February 12, 2025, in North Bay.

Terri DIGBY – Impaired Driving

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged a driver with impaired driving.

On February 6, 2025, at approximately 6:10 a.m., the Nipissing West Detachment of the OPP responded to a parked vehicle on Principal Street, West Nipissing.

The parked vehicle was located and the driver was arrested for impaired driving, then transported to Greater Sudbury Police Service for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Terri DIGBY, 57 years-of-age, from West Nipissing, was charged with, operation while impaired – drugs

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on March 6, 2025, in North Bay.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Patrick CLOUTIER – Drunk Driving

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged a driver with impaired driving offences.

On February 2, 2025, at approximately 1:10 p.m., the Nipissing West Detachment of the OPP responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver on Highway 17, West Nipissing.

The vehicle was located, and the driver was arrested for impaired driving, then transported to an OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Patrick CLOUTIER, 45 years-of-age, from Azilda, was charged with, operation while impaired – alcohol, and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on March 6, 2025, in North Bay.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Genevieve GAGNE Was Arrested

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged one person with drug related offences.

On February 1, 2025, at approximately 3:40 p.m., the Nipissing West Detachment of the OPP responded to a person passed out in a vehicle, in a local parking lot on Front Street, West Nipissing.

Police conducted a wellness check on the individual and a search of the vehicle located drugs paraphernalia, along with drugs suspected to be amphetamines, cocaine, crack cocaine and methamphetamine.

As a result of the investigation, Genevieve GAGNE, 43 years-of-age, from West Nipissing, was arrested and charged with, possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – four counts

The accused was held for Bail Court and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on February 3, 2025, in North Bay.

2 Deceased Following Collision

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a head-on collision, which resulted in the death of two people.

On January 23, 2025, shortly after 11:00 a.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the OPP, Fire Services and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 17, West Nipissing.

A 69-year-old-person from Wawa was pronounced deceased at the scene. Two other people were transported by Air ORNGE with serious life-threatening injuries to a local hospital, where a 74-year-old person from Sault Ste. Marie, later succumb to their injuries. Three other people were treated at the scene with minor injuries.

The highway was closed in both directions for just over eight hours.

The investigation is still ongoing with the assistance of the OPP Collision Reconstructionist and the Traffic Collision Investigation Team to determine the cause of the collision.

Another Drunk Driver Arrested

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – Police arrested and charged one person with impaired driving offences, after an investigation involving a motor vehicle in a ditch.

On January 11, 2025, at approximately 10:40 p.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle in a ditch on Leclair Road, West Nipissing.

No injuries were reported and as a result of the investigation, Camille, DUBUC TREMBLAY, 30 years-of-age, from Cache Bay, was arrested and charged with, operation while impaired – alcohol and failure or refusal to comply with demand.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on February 6, 2025, in North Bay.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Shane KELLY Facing Numerous Charges

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – Police arrested and charged one person with possession of stolen property.

On January 4, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint about a stolen vehicle being towed on a trailer on Larocque Street, West Nipissing.

Police located and stopped the vehicle towing another vehicle on a trailer. The investigation revealed both vehicles and the trailer had been stolen and the driver was arrested.

As a result of the investigation, Shane KELLY, 35 years-of-age, from Field, was charged with:

  • Failure to comply with release order
  • Theft over $5,000 of a motor vehicle
  • Possession break in instruments
  • Possession property obtained by crime over $5,000 – three counts
  • Drive with seat belt assembly modified
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle
  • Entire plate not plainly visible
  • Drive motor vehicle – no licence
  • Draw trailer, no plate
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused was release and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on February 6, 2025, in North Bay.

Cody BROWNLEE Facing Numerous Charges

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged a driver with multiple offences after receiving a call from a concern motorist.

On January 3, 2025, at approximately 2:25 p.m., the Nipissing West Detachment of the OPP responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver on Highway 17, West Nipissing.

The vehicle was located, and the driver was arrested for impaired driving, then transported to an OPP detachment for further testing.

After searching the vehicle, police located and seized a bottle of open liquor.

As a result of the investigation, Cody BROWNLEE, 33 years-of-age, from Gravenhurst, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while prohibited
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
  • Obstruct plate
  • Fail to have insurance card
  • Possess licence while prohibited
  • Improper lights
  • Improper mudguards

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on February 6, 2025, in North Bay.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
