(QUINTE WEST, ON) – Members of the Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are seeking the public’s assistance in a death investigation in the City of Quinte West.
On Thursday, August 15, 2024, at approximately 10:00 a.m., officers with the Quinte West OPP, Quinte West OPP Crime Unit, OPP Forensic Identification Services, Quinte West Fire and Hastings-Quinte Paramedic Services attended a residence on Westmount Court, where a 49-year-old male from Quinte West was located deceased.
On Thursday, May 22, 2025, following a lengthy investigation, Shannon BROOKS, 36 years old of Quinte West, was arrested with the assistance of the Belleville Police Service Emergency Response Unit, and charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:
- Indignity to dead body – section 182(b)
- Theft of credit card – section 342(1)(a)
- Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000 – section 354(1)(a)
- Possession of a credit card – section 342(1)(c)
In relation to separate investigations, the accused was also charged with the following CC offences:
- Operation while prohibited – section 320.18 (1)(a)
- Fail to comply with probation order – section 733.1(1) – three counts
The investigation continues under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
